This is a hand crafted bread lame made with solid walnut (brown wood) and stripes of maple (blond wood) and padauk (red wood) with solid brass accents and hardware. The wood is 100% natural in its color, no stain or dye is used. It is accompanied by a purpose-made storage and display case made with the same materials laid out in a matching pattern. The case has solid brass hinges and a place to store extra blades. (5-pack of blades is included)
A custom laser engraving can be added on the top of each case with a monogram, name, or note. Unless specified the default font for engraving is "Academy Engraved".
A Lame (pronounced LAHM, meaning “blade” in French) is used to hold a razor used to score bread dough which to helps to control the expansion of the loaf as it bakes.
Each lame is shaped contoured and shaped by entirely by hand using a combination of techniques so each will have slight unique variations. The Lames are fitted with brass plates also cut by hand and knurled brass thumb screws for tightening the blade in place by pinching it between the wood. They are all finished with several coats of food-safe wood conditioner oil.
